What is Physiotherapy

What is Physiotherapy ?

The Role of a Physiotherapist

Physiotherapy deals with diagnosing, restoring and maintaining the bodies systems, improving functional  movement, reducing pain and promoting health in individuals.

As physiotherapists, we treat a wide array of conditions including:
  • Spinal Pain and Injuries (e.g. Disc Bulges, Prolapsed Discs or long term Spinal trauma)
  • Soft Tissue (e.g. Muscle and Ligament damage,Tennis Elbow, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome )
  • Fractures (e.g. broken arm)
  • Musculoskeletal Problems / Sports Injuries
  • Post-Surgical Rehabilitation (e.g. following a knee, Hip, Shoulder, Ankle Operation)
  • Biomechanical Problems (e.g. “flat feet”)
  • Arthritic Conditions (e.g. osteoarthritis)
  • Neurological Disorders and Diseases
  • Cardiothoracic Conditions
  • Osteoporosis
  • Children and Young Adult Conditions
  • Age Related Conditions
This is just to name a few!

Physiotherapists are extensively trained in manual therapy which means we are “hands-on” with our patients, however we have just as good results using online services. Hands on treatments may include massage and joint mobilisation and manipulation, as well as muscle stretching which we achieve using a wide variety of techniques. To complement our manual skills we sometimes make use of different modalities to reduce pain and inflammation including hot packs, I.C.E. TENS, E-stim, ultrasound and laser treatment. Acupuncture and trigger point therapy is also widely practised by physiotherapists.

So why Online?
It also means as a Chartered Physiotherapist we are trained through the NHS and with the Chartered status we can diagnose whilst governed by organisations that regulate our quality of work such as the Health Care Professions (HPC) .  We have a depth of knowledge related to most conditions related to the systems of our body and can give guidance and advice along with rehabilitation programmes when a patient can not attend face to face appointments, but are in pain or worried.

Physiotherapists are highly trained in exercise prescription and often give patients exercises to do at home to help resolve their conditions, which can be done face to face or online and through their expertise in screening allows the therapist to make a decision if the condition requires referral or can be treated face to face or online whilst working alongside other medical professionals.

Its vital that all injuries, pain and conditions are assessed early and competently by practitioners with the correct experience and qualifications.

If you have any of the injuries or conditions listed above, a consultation with us is a step in the right direction!
"When I was injured as a player, what I needed was reassurance, trust in some one, expert advice that came with honesty, the best treatment out there to get me back playing with no reoccurrence of injury. Gordon always provided time and time again."
